Cycle the Solway Blog Post

Posted May 15, 2022 by Steph

What a weekend! After 3 years planning, postponing, adapting, and waiting – we finally hosted our very own Cycle the Solway sponsored by @Dodds Accountants!

All results are available to view by clicking on the link for each distance:

These events do not just happen and the list of thank you’s is long – so I’ll get straight into it!
Nothing we do, could happen without our amazing team. A huge thanks to all of #teamwatchtree for all they do.
Big thanks to @Lloyds Kia Carlisle who loaned us a support van and brought us a fantastic Kia EV6 to display in our event village. The van was driven by David Foster, an incredibly dedicated and selfless volunteer who we owe a debt of gratitude! Dave and a small crew were responsible for all the route signage – a huge task which was carried out faultlessly! Thank you to @BalfourBeatty for supplying the barriers and cones.

Thanks to Barry at @Wellington for the bar, @border party hire for the bouncy castle and sumo suits and Solway Ices for the ice cream van. They all added to a fantastic atmosphere back here during and after the rides.
We have already had fantastic feedback about the number of marshals out on the routes and how cheery they were! Big thanks to all of them, marshalling can make for a long boring day stood on a roadside pointing, but it makes a huge difference to the riders particularly those who are new to sportive riding or are pushing themselves to new distances.

Wigton Scouts and Thursby Brownies were amazing manning feed stations for us – this is such a huge task for us to fulfil and we’re really grateful for their support. Thanks also to @Mullhollands Butchers and Watchtree Cafe for stocking the feedstations and @The Wheatsheaf and @Campfield Marsh for allowing us to setup with them and use some of their facilities.

We’re relieved to say that @st johns ambulance and Angela Dobson’s first aid were not needed throughout the weekend but they provided a great service regardless and were ready and waiting should anything have gone wrong!
A special mention must go to Morag and Dave, these two wonderful people blow my mind at every event we work on together. Their dedication and enthusiasm is relentless and infectious, we are indebted to their contribution to Watchtree and this weekend has been another example of there work. Morag’s chicken dance this morning was the pick-me-up I needed to get through a second event day and I won’t let Dave leave before a sumo match!

Last but most certainly not least – THANK YOU! All of you riders and supporters make Cycle the Solway what it is, were planning next years bigger and better version already – watch this space!
