Watchtree 10K Run, sponsored by David Allen Financial Services

Posted June 19, 2024 by Senga Grave

Wednesday 19th June, 2024. Watchtree Nature Reserve, Nr Wiggonby, Carlisle CA5 6NL

Welcome to the Watchtree 10k run: the second in our series of three runs for 2024!   Welcome back to our regular runners, thank you, we really appreciate your support! Welcome to the new runners, we look forward to getting to know you.

We are aware that we have a few runners that have never participated in a road run before so hopefully we will answer all your questions here.

The run will start at 7pm.  Registration will open at 5.45 pm and will be in the portacabin.  It will close at 6.35 pm.  The run will start near the jet engine so you need to give yourselves time to get up there – it’s probably a 5 minute walk.  There is a compost loo near the engine.  We will have a briefing at 6.55pm at the start line.

The route will take you down the runway, through the gates and off the reserve.  You must follow the highway code and run on the right hand side of the road, facing the oncoming traffic.  The roads are generally quiet country lanes but please be aware that the roads are open and there may be agricultural vehicles on the road.

The route is well marshalled and sign posted.   If you have any problems please let a marshal know.  The marshals are there to help you along the way and show you the correct route.  They are not there to stop traffic.  We could not put this event on without the wonderful marshals, we very much appreciate them and hope you do too.

Headphones are NOT permitted for safety reasons – also why would you want to wear headphones when you can listen to the sound of the birds singing!

NO littering.

There will be a water station at Aitken Community Hall, kindly provided by Carlisle Tri Junior Club.  There will also be a cup drop area.  Some people may choose to carry extra water as it may be a warm evening, hopefully not hot like last year!

The finish line is outside the portacabin.

There will be a water station at the finish.  The Visitor Centre will be open throughout the event and they will have other cold drinks for sale as well as coffee and cakes etc and of course, the delicious Gelato Shack.  If you are bringing a support crew with you there will be plenty of opportunity for them to stay hydrated and fuelled.

I hope I’ve thought of everything, if I have missed something then please get in touch.  We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone on the 19th June!
