Watchtree Seasonal Series 2022 – Summer Run

Posted June 15, 2022 by Steph

Wednesday 22nd June 2022

Welcome to the second run of the 2022 Seasonal Series, kindly sponsored by David Allen Financial Services! Whilst we hope that as many people as possible will turn up for the run on the evening, we acknowledge that for various reasons you may not be able to attend.

Fear not…….you will be able to turn up at Watchtree any time during the week of 22nd to 29th June, when the course will be marked out. If you then go to the Watchtree Wheelers Office and show them your run, they will give you a medal. As you will see at the end of the series it will be important that you collect all four medals. If you are unable to run the route during that week, don’t worry, you can come along at another date, the course will not be marked out though – we will accept your individual version of the route if you get lost along the way.

We have allocated everybody a running number (it makes life easier for us). The numbers are at the end of this email. You do not need to tell us if you are not intending to run on the evening. The course for this year is the reverse route for the Health and Wellbeing Trail.

This year there will be an informal league table. We will take the best three times of your four runs. For your time to be counted you must run on the night of the event. There won’t be any prizes – it’s just for fun/bragging rights/kudos! The first set of results are also at the bottom of this email.

If you are not intending to run with us on the Wednesday evening then you don’t need to read any further. Watchtree is looking lovely at the moment with all the signs of summer. The meadows are in full bloom and there are signs, and sounds of new life everywhere. We hope you have a good run and enjoy the refuelling in the cafe afterwards.

For those of you that are running with us on the night, it is summer and hopefully we won’t need head torches! There is plenty of parking at Watchtree. There may well be some members on the reserve, but it is much quieter on an evening.

Registration will open at 5.30 pm. This will be in the portakabin, beside the bike hire. There is a table with everybody’s number on at the end of this email. The visitor centre will be open throughout the evening. There will be a run brief at 6.20pm behind the Visitor Centre.

The route will be marshalled, however, please stay on the black tarmac and do not cut corners. There may be barrels which you will be instructed to run round. The route is mixed terrain and the ground is uneven in places. If you run down the middle of the off road paths there will be fewer trip hazards. We cannot guarantee that you will not meet a deer along the route but they are more likely to knock you over than you trip over them!

Please follow the marshals instructions. Please only cross the finish line once. Feel free to go back out if you want to go and find someone – just don’t cross the finish line for a second time. Our timing volunteers can be sensitive about that one! You can then collect your finishers medal and hopefully refuel in the cafe. The provisional results will hopefully be out on Thursday.

I hope I’ve thought of everything, if we have missed something then please get in touch. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone on the 22nd June!
