Event
We are delighted to announce the second of our local history events at Watchtree! Come along to our cosy Visitors’ Centre, where Frank Giecco from Wardell Armstrong Archaeology will take us back in time to learn more about the Romans in Carlisle and the importance of Hadrian’s Wall within the region.
The 73 mile long structure ran across the country, stretching from the North East all the way to Bowness on Solway in the North West and the Romans firmly made their mark on ‘Luguvalium’ – or ‘Carlisle’; the most North-Western town in the Roman Empire. Find out about what Roman structures stood along the wall, what life was like as a Roman Soldier, guarding the Northern Frontier, and what Roman artefacts have been discovered from recent archaeological digs, in particular, the Roman Bath House dig at Carlisle Cricket Club.
7pm, Watchtree Visitors Centre. Refreshments available.
